“If we give our very best to all the children of today and if we pass on our planet in the fullness of her beauty and natural richness, we will be serving the children of the future.”
Nelson Mandela in “Gondwana Alive” 1998
I started as a biology teacher, went on to be the Head of a co-ed, boarding school. Left it after three years as I wanted to study biodiversity and write to share with teachers the wonderful Biodiversity of India. So I became an Independent Consultant in the field of Education. My Ph.D being on a biology curriculum for secondary school, I have expertise in designing contextually relevant curriculum in sciences for middle school and biology for all classes including Secondary and Senior secondary. I was part of the team that designed the Environment Education curriculum ( as 6th sub) for ICSE board. I have also designed curriculum for schools; trained teachers ( including teachers at Mongolia) of all school boards, to teach biology in a as an inquiry based subject, moving beyond facts, to begin with observations, develop thinking and analytical skills in order to infer and conclude on their own- in short build knowledge by themselves, with minimal help from teachers. I have also helped teachers from IB schools (PYP to DP) to develop curriculum ( which is not restricted to a syllabi but all aspects of learning including assessment) help understand both formative and summative techniques
The books I have written can be viewed in my home page and the articles I have written for teachers to bring biodiversity into their classroom can be viewed at www.teacherplus.org.
I have seen teachers use encyclopedia written by Western authors with examples from other countries in their classroom. I have through my articles in Teacher Plus tried to let teachers know the astonishing beauty of the diversity that exist in our country. I started doing this when Instagram and Facebook or Citizen Science programmes had not provided the services as they do now about Natural world.
I have also trained forest guards and antipoaching watchers as ecoguides. I write about insects as their numbers and diversity is dwindling, which is not good news for us or the earth.
Contact me if you think I can be of help. I am also open to helping you plan lessons in biology and general science meaningfully in order to move from rote memory to inquiry.
Also Feel free to share your views and thoughts, use this website as a space to start a conversation, discussion on any aspect of life sciences.
